Video Post: The importance of Exercise and Wellness to Happiness

In this video (available on my YouTube channel) I discuss the importance of physical exercise and wellness in regards to our understanding of happiness.

One of the most common causes of unhappiness is a lack of physical health. Poor physical health manifests itself physically as we experience chronic aches and pain, higher likelihoods of various forms of morbidity, and decreased ability to do things we enjoy. Mentally we experience shame and poor self esteem as we find ourselves dissatisfied with our appearance and lack of fitness.

Luckily, this is one the of few things that we can control. We have the power to dramatically improve our physical, emotional, and mental health when we prioritize exercise and wellness. When we begin to exercise we first feel the euphoric feeling as our body releases endorphins that make us feel good immediately. In the long term, we are rewarded with higher senses of accomplishment and self esteem, our risk of disease has gone down, we feel better, and we are more able to enjoy meaningful activities.

I would encourage everyone to take the time to prioritize their own health and wellness. This is not a selfish act. This is one of the least selfish acts you can perform. When you are unhealthy and unfit you become a downer that can suck the joy out of others. You will also become a burden and a liability to those who love and care for you. When you care for yourself you nurture the soul of the world by prioritizing that small part, your self, for which you are responsible. When you are happy and healthy you light up a room and raise the spirits of others. You cant care for others without first being able toc are for yourself.
